where I've been

Here's a quick update on things that have gone on while I wasn't in the mood for blogging:

Kit and I went to New York for MOCCA. I got to meet people like Evan Dorkin, Sarah Dyer, and Alison Bechdel. I also met online aquaintances such as Dean Trippe, Liz Greenfield, some people who are putting together Comic Foundry, and some representatives of Wizard Magazine's Secret Stash column, which focuses on independant creators.

We also visited the MOCCA museum and saw its Stan Lee exhibit. We did lots of running around the city too, of course. Some of this is documented in pictures posted on my Myspace home. Kit posted a lot more about the trip on her blog.

I was visited by my sister and father for a few days. My sister wanted to see lots of touristy things, while my dad really didn't.

I'm receiving lots of artwork for the second issue of Fatalysia. It's going to look really nice. Some of the art is posted on Uriel's Comicspace page.

I've seen several movies lately. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer was pretty bad. They nailed the same one or two things they nailed in the first movie (mainly the Thing and the Human Torch) and made all the bad things a lot worse (Doctor Doom being the most offensive thing in it. It was like they put armor on Gene Hackman's Lex Luthor). The Silver Surfer was well done though. Transformers had great effects but too many storylines and too much going on on the screen. I enjoyed the latest Harry Potter movie, but talking with fans of the books (which I need to begin reading already) reveals that there are very important story elements that haven't been worked into like the last three movies. I appreciated Sicko.

The other night, we went to one of those live sing-a-longs for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode Once More With Feeling. The organizers said the DC showings sold out faster than anywhere else. It was fun. "A less slutty Rocky Horror", as someone put it. They're doing it again in October.

Kit's home. She probably wants her computer back.
